E-books

This guide introduces library's e-book services and gives instructions on how to read and download books on different devices.

How to find e-books

E-books can be found in your university's Finna. The easiest way to find a specific e-book is to type the title of the book in the search box. To access the book, click on the link in the book's information.

You can also search for e-books with search terms describing the topic and then narrow down the search results to e-books. In Finna, you can also find links to e-book platforms. Remember to login to your university's Finna, so that you have access to e-resources.

More information about e-books can be found in this video guide.

How to read e-books

The way e-books can be read varies depending on the platform or book. The most common options are:

  • Browser reading: The e-book is opened for reading in a browser. Reading requires a network connection.
  • Reader: The e-book is downloaded to a reading program where the book can be read offline. In library e-book services, the most common reader program is Adobe Digital Editions. Download the program from the web to your device before downloading the e-book. See more detailed instructions here. In order to download an e-book to a reading program, you often need to create a user account to the e-book service where the book is.
  • Mobile application: The e-book service may have its own application for mobile devices. In the app store for your device, you will also find other applications for reading e-books.

See section E-book services and their usage on this page for more details.
